Le Meridien Isle Of Pines

Thursday, April 13, 2006
New Caledonia is a beautiful ecological treasure lying in an emerald green lagoon. It was explored by Captain James Cook in 1774, settled by Britain and France during the first half of the 19th century and annexed by France in 1853.

It is made up of a group of islands — the Main Island, Loyalty Islands, Isle of Pines, Belep and a scattering of small islands. The barrier reef stretching 1600 kilometres and encircling the mainland island is the world's largest lagoon.

Cooled by the Pacific Ocean and the trade winds, New Caledonia enjoys a soft, sunny climate. It is a land with many traditions, customs and different cultures. The blend of Melanesian and French culture, enhanced by Polynesian and Asian, makes for an exciting lifestyle.

Isle of Pines is off the southern tip of the main island. It has been blessed with powdery white sand, aquamarine lagoons and endless Norfolk pines. Just 14 kilometres wide and 18 kilometres long, the island is referred to as the jewel of the Pacific.

Le Meridien Ile des Pins, the island's only resort, is on Oro Bay in just over two hectares of coconut palms and pine trees. It has bungalow-suite accommodation made up of 10 deluxe rooms, 21 lagoon suites and eight garden suites.

La Pirogue serves French/Melanesian cuisine prepared from the island's fresh ingredients. You can enjoy a casual barbecue on the terrace or an elegant à la carte dinner.

La Boussole, adjacent to La Pirogue, is where guests enjoy cool tropical drinks or maybe an after-dinner liqueur.

There is a large selection of water activities, including outings in traditional outrigger canoes, and many interesting excursions.
