Jules checks out ER
A scene from Lethal Weapon

Hollywood - TV tapings & movie locations

Thursday, April 22, 2004
CSI, ER & Two and a half Men fans, stand clear as we go behind the scenes to some of your favourite programs and movie locations.

Another terrific way to see how it all happens before it reaches your living room is to attend the taping of a television show. Most talk shows are recorded in New York or Chicago, but numerous sitcoms are taped in LA. Being part of the audience is great fun — you get to see bloopers as they happen, actors relaxing between takes and just how many people it takes to put half an hour of television together. You don't need to be in the know — Audiences Unlimited distributes free tickets to show tapings. They have access to 60 shows at 26 studios and a favourite of yours is bound to be on their books.

Jules had a good look around the set of the new comedy series, Two-And-A-Half Men, which stars Charlie Sheen.

CBS Television City has free admission to tapings of shows such as The Price is Right and Hollywood Squares. NBC Studios will take you to the studios where Days Of Our Lives and The Tonight Show are made. Tours take 70 minutes and you are shown sets, wardrobe, makeup and special effects.

You will also see people giving free tickets to television tapings outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

Movie locations

There are lots of ways to officially visit locations, but you are bound to stumble upon one or two as you just walk around. Brendon visited 8431 Santa Monica Boulevard, the building from which Mel Gibson made his famous jump in one of the Lethal Weapon films.

Alexandra Paul, who starred in Baywatch, took Brendon to Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades along the Pacific Coast Highway. This is the surfing beach where the series was filmed and it stretches 27km to Malibu.
