Twenty-five minutes from Wellington, on the north island of New Zealand, is Boomrock Lodge. It runs along eight kilometres of untouched coastline, and was named for the sound of the waves hitting the cave at the base of a cliff. Boomrock Lodge is 250 metres above the cave and has views across Marlborough Sounds to Mt Egmont.
Johnny Eastwick is the third generation to graze sheep at Boomrock, and eight years ago he decided it was too special a place for just sheep to enjoy. Now paying guests enjoy the beautiful property, and while you can't stay overnight, it offers a day to remember! It's all about doing things you wouldn't normally have access to, in superb surroundings, with a meal prepared by an award-winning chef, accompanied by fine New Zealand wine.
Boomrock's Ultimate Experience is a mix of activities regarded as "The Best of the Best". The day begins by saddling up for a ride to Papanui Station, a 1295-hectare sheep and cattle farm.
The jewel of the crown is a Mercedes-Benz Car Testing Circuit. The purpose-built racetrack gives the chance to drive the very latest Mercedes-Benz with professional driving instructors. Experience the superior handling and latest technology on both wet and dry surfaces.
After that, you can strap into a purpose-built rally car and take an exhilarating spin on a twisting gravel road. The adrenaline-pumping ride is captured on video.
Something most of us have wanted to do is fly in a helicopter. At Boomrock, they go one step further. You actually learn to fly one. Take the dual controls and navigate your way over Boomrock and its breathtaking beauty. Of course there is a full briefing before you get to juggle the controls and head over the 250-metre vertical cliff face and out towards the open sea.
Other activities are playing a three-green extreme golf course. Built by the New Zealand army, it is positioned along the cliff face.
You may also try your skills at clay bird shooting, archery or stock handling.
