Jason Dundas recently launched a brand-new
Getaway segment. We've called it "Give me a Break" and it's something very different.
We've asked the bosses of Australia to nominate their most hard-working team member for a weekend away they won't soon forget. The Getaway crew will then surprise them at the office and whisk them away.

With a lot of furtive behind-the-scenes goings on, it was time for Jason to head to Baulkham Hills North Public School in Sydney to surprise Samantha Nutt, a teacher there. Her friends and colleagues reckoned Samantha was definitely in need of and deserved a break and we were happy to accommodate her.
She was very surprised to see Jason in the school's quadrangle and even more surprised that she was the reason for his visit.
According to Ms Asmanis-Ploeg, the school's principal, Samantha takes on roles far beyond her classroom responsibilities. Nothing is too much trouble and she works very hard outside the school. She also has a part-time job on weekends, so there isn't much time for Samantha to relax and spend time with her boyfriend, Rocky.
Ms Asmanis-Ploeg arranged a relief teacher to take care of Samantha's students who were just as excited as they waved and yelled goodbye. Samantha boarded her waiting limousine and was more than surprised to see Rocky already there. He had packed a bag for her and all the girls in the Getaway office were wondering what sort of job he did. It turns out he did very well.
The excitement grew when Samantha was told they were going to Perisher Valley for a romantic weekend. She had never seen snow so, of course, had never tried snow skiing and it was all about to happen.
The trio flew to Canberra and drove to Perisher. It takes around six hours to drive all the way, but flying cuts the time in half and gives you more time on the slopes.
Lake Crackenback Resort
Located on the border of
Kosciuszko National Park between the Perisher and Thredbo ski fields and surrounded by the Snowy Mountains, Lake Crackenback Resort is the perfect place for outdoor enthusiasts or those who fancy a romantic getaway. It's wonderful year round.
There is 4.5-star accommodation with one-, two- and three-bedroom Overwater Apartments, each with private balcony, kitchen and laundry. Lake Crackenback has fantastic cuisine options matched by the breathtaking views. The bar has a great selection of cocktails, schnapps, cognacs, liquors, beers and wines from around the world.
The resort has a heated indoor pool day spa, gym, steam room and sauna to help those muscles relax after a day in the snow. In summer guests canoe on the lake, fish, play golf, tennis, basketball, volleyball and badminton or try their hand at archery. There's also plenty of wildlife around including kangaroos, wombats, emus, echidnas and wild brumbies.
Perisher Snowsports School
From the resort it was a short ride in the ski tube for Samantha to see snow for the very first time. Everyone agreed she was pretty good at her first attempt at skiing. She was even better at making snowballs and her aim was pretty good. A team of experienced ski instructors gives lessons to people of all ages.
The ski or snowboard programs for adults and children are designed to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. The 2.5-hour group lessons are recommended as the best way to learn new skills.
Mountain Workshops are a good option for advanced skiers and boarders. Instructors carefully grade students to ensure maximum learning potential.
