What's your favourite vacation spot and why?

My favourite spot would have to be Necker Island in the Caribbean. Why? Because I've been lucky enough to be invited there by the Bransons [Richard's family], pretty much every year for the last 10 years and they certainly know how to holiday. So it's partly because of the activities involving them — we'll do fun and games on the beach and we'll do kitesurfing and wakeboarding. So it's kind of an adventure holiday but it's also one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to.

What's your number-one travel tip?

My tip is not to go somewhere and just sit on a beach and lay there. In my experience, the best holidays [involve] planned activities and adventure things, mountain climbing and stuff like that.

What do you never leave home without?

For travel, I probably never leave home without my iPod dock to listen to music — because wherever you are in the world, you can put some music on and make yourself feel at home. Also, a smelly candle — preferably Diptyque.

What's your ultimate travel destination?

Anywhere I haven't been yet! I love travelling and I love meeting different cultures and putting myself in different environments — so there's loads of places I'd love to see. I want to go to Peru. I want to tour India. I've been to India but I haven't done it properly, so my favourites are probably all the places I haven't been.

What's your best Australian travel experience?

A drive down the Great Ocean Road with my friend. It was many years ago and I remember stopping off and going to all the waterfalls along the way. It was absolutely beautiful!

What has been the best thing about making this new single?

The best thing about making this new album and the new single, 'Want', was probably just experimenting with different sounds and doing songs with dance beats and electronic sounds and just being more experimental.

Tell me a little bit about the new album.

Working on Come to Life has been a long experience, but probably one of the most rewarding. I feel like I've made a strong album this time. It's really eclectic and I got to work with people like Chris Martin [from Coldplay], who was very helpful actually in the track listing.

The actual songwriting process with him was just amazing — to watch him work — so he gave me some beautiful songs. Probably my favourite one from working with Chris is 'Fun', which is this really, really sweet beautiful love song. There are so many different styles on the record, I thinks it's probably the most eclectic record that I've made. And I'm just really happy and can't wait to tour it!
