Thursday, August 24, 2006

71. Santa Claus
Santa has answered hundreds of millions of letters and he and his crew love receiving them. On Santa's website there are hundreds of things to look at, Christmas cards, decorations to make, favourite books, songs and even Christmas humour.

Santa, Mrs Santa, the elves and reindeer live in Finnish Lapland and are busy year-round, but somehow there is time to keep an eye on the children as they get ready for their big journey on December 24 each year.

72. Ski Dubai
Snow skiing and a vast desert don't really go hand-in-hand — unless you are in Dubai. The oil-rich emirate has the Middle East's first indoor ski resort. Ski Dubai in Mall of the Emirates opened at the end of 2005 and is the third largest indoor ski slope in the world, measuring 400 metres and using 6000 tons of snow, which adds up to 22,500 square metres of the white stuff. Temperature is kept at -1° to -2°C.

It has a revolving ski slope, artificial mountain range, an ice bridge, cable lift, snow maze, ice slide, polar bears, cold water aquarium and special sound and lighting. You can ski, snowboard or toboggan — there is something for everyone and all the warm clothing you need.

73. Nickelodeon Hotel
Orlando, Florida, is the number-one family holiday destination in the world and the Holiday Inn has joined with Nickelodeon to create the ultimate kid-friendly hotel. It's a place for the whole family, but where kids reign supreme.

Suites are decked out with favourite characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Cosmo, Wanda from The Fairly Odd Parents and Rugrats. Studio Nick is a million dollar state-of-the-art theatre with live, interactive family entertainment every night.

74. Disney World, Florida
This Disney attraction is not just a theme park but a huge resort complex covering 75 square kilometres. It has four theme parks, three water parks and 99 holes of golf on several courses. Hiking, biking, boating and swimming areas are vast and there are three areas of shopping, entertainment and dining. Another area has nightclubs.

There are 18 Disney-owned and several other hotels in the resort and with the many other attractions in the Orlando area, you could be there for quite a while.
