Lochie alongside the Bentley.
The Voyager Estate.
Wine tasting at the Voyager Estate.
Lochie gets a wine escort and a guide, and has the pleasure of being chauffeur-driven around the vineyards of the Margaret River in a 1955 Bentley.
She is chauffeur, wine escort and guide, and her tours are tailored to the wishes of the tourist. She can simply take people from vineyard to vineyard, or she can pass on her inside knowledge of the wines.
The Voyager Estate Winery has vines dating back to 1978, but when Michael Wright bought the property in 1991, he changed it into the superb winery it is today. The cellar sales building is South African Cape Dutch architecture, and the rose gardens are colourful proof that roses and grapes flourish in the same sort of soil.
The Vasse Felix winery claims to be the first to be established in the Margaret River. They are growing seven varieties of grapes at the moment, and their most popular wine is the Heytesbury Cabernet. Their Shiraz was the wine that gave them their start, and overall, their wines have won many medals.
Michael Whyte gives Nola’s guests a special tour of Vasse Felix: they have barrel samplings, a trip through the winery itself and a walk through the vines. Their beautiful restaurant not only has excellent food, but views over the vineyard and the tree-lined avenue leading to the winery.
Discovering the Margaret River with Nola is a comfortable, luxurious way to spend a day and, best of all, you can taste the wines and not have to be concerned about being over the limit.
The Margaret River is a three-and-a-half-hour drive south of Perth.
A one-day wine tasting tour of the Margaret River in Nola Gaebler’s Bentley costs $440 for two people.
The Wine Enthusiast Tour costs $50 more, and gives private barrel tastings, meetings with winemakers and private tours of wineries.
Personal itineraries are available on request and prices are as above date.
