When former international model Megan Gale isn't on location in an exotic part of the world, she loves nothing better than to head to Perth. Born and bred there, Megan has never lost touch with her home town and family and friends who live there.
Cottesloe is a favourite Perth beach. It has beautiful homes from the 19th and 20th centuries and the streets are lined with old Norfolk pines. The Civic Centre is a great example of the area's history and its large gardens and lawns are open to the public.
The hotel overlooking the beach is very popular and its 'Sunday Sessions' draw large crowds. There are loads of places to eat and all the water sports you can think of.
The WA Beach Volleyball Team trains at Cottesloe, and when they aren't using the courts, nets can be hired nearby so everyone can have a game.
Further south, Fremantle is also a popular spot, particularly the cappuccino strip.
Gino's Italian café has been there since 1983. It has a straightforward approach to good food and coffee and was once a tailor's shop run by owner Paul Saccone's father Gino. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, Gino's has a devout following. The coffee they serve is so good, other cafés buy it for their customers.
Locals say a visit to Fremantle without going to the markets just shouldn't happen. It has exciting shops and stalls selling everything from food to crafts. Buskers supply entertainment as you wander around the 150 outlets, housed in a grand old Victorian building. The precinct includes the Sail & Anchor Hotel, Norfolk Hotel, Warders Cottages and Scots Church.
The Old Swan Brewery, overlooking the Swan River has been transformed and it's where you will find Zafferano, Albasio La Pegna's fourth restaurant. Born and raised on Naples' Amalfi Coast, he has a great passion for seafood and that is reflected in his menu.
The restaurant is elegant but relaxed with high-backed suede chairs, white and terracotta tiles, onyx marble pillars and a grand piano. It seats 120 inside and 40 for al fresco dining.
Perth, the capital of Western Australia.
Fremantle Markets are open Friday 9am-9pm, Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 10am-5pm. Zafferano is open Monday to Friday for lunch and dinner, Saturday for dinner only and Sunday for pre-arranged private functions.
