Nat has found a perfect farm in Victoria for some clean family fun with loads of cute fury friends.
Rain, Hayne and Shine Farmyard is in the rural precinct of Balnarring on the Mornington Peninsula and provides an up-close experience with some friendly animals. The experience is as educational and as much fun for grown-ups as it is for children.
The farm is home to ducks, geese, fowls, turkeys, emus, goats, sheep, cattle, horses, donkeys, alpacas and pigs. There is a friendly dingo, a variety of other dogs, tortoises, ferrets, pet rats, rabbits, guinea pigs and plenty of native birds.
Everyone has a chance to be with their favourite farm animal. Some animals love to be petted and cuddled and the babies can be hand or bottle fed by visitors. There is something about baby animals that gets everyone in, and to actually feed them by bottle is wonderful.
Children love the pony and goat cart rides and can be shown how to milk a goat. They learn how to separate the cream, churn it into butter, pick some wheat, grind it into flour and use it to make bread. Talk about home-made morning tea! There is a gas barbecue if you want to stay for lunch.
The animals like to be milked at around 10:30am and the bread is ready at about noon. That gives plenty of time to build up an appetite while doing the rounds of the other animals and maybe going on a good old-fashioned hay ride. Sometimes they finish up with a hay fight.
During school holidays the owners make sure there is something special for children to be involved in.
If Balnarring isn't on your travel schedule, they will come to you. They visit schools and child care centres, parties, fundraisers, corporate functions, promotions, nursing homes and retirement villages.
