Scienceworks is an exciting place to visit. It is a place of hands-on exhibits, live demonstrations, tours, activities and shows. It proves that exploring the mysteries of science and technology can be fun, and it is a great experience for those with curious minds and active bodies.

The Melbourne Planetarium is the only digital planetarium in the Southern Hemisphere and a range of shows take you to the stars, moon, planets and even further.

The ultimate in hair-raising experiences is to be had in the Lightning Room. You will experience lightning demonstrations, a giant Tesla coil which generates two million volts of electricity to produce three metre lightning bolts. There is an electromagnetic can crusher, a Jacob's ladder, storm safety strategies and a high voltage pickle cucumber which can literally light up your day!

With the Commonwealth Games about to begin, Scienceworks Museum has introduced Sportsworks. It gives people the chance to face the ultimate physical challenge and shows the science behind sport. It has been designed for all ages and abilities, and the only person you have to compete with is yourself.

It comes in two parts — first you test yourself. Height, weight, reaction time, flexibility, arm span, balance, heart fitness, strength and many other reactions are measured and you are given details on a card.

Next step is trying a variety of sports including extreme snowboarding, being a soccer goalkeeper and trying one of two grades of rock climbing up a three metre wall.

There is a large wall with three types of throwing games — a baseball speed throw, a netball ring and an Australian Rules football handpass.

The Pedal Skeleton is amazing. As you pedal, you can look above and see a skeleton pedalling in sync, showing how important bones are when passing on forces from muscles.
