Melbourne budget boutique hotels

Thursday, April 3, 2008
There's a trend developing in the world of travel. Around the globe, hotel rooms are becoming smaller without compromising style and comfort, and rates are dropping!

We've dubbed it the Budget Boutique Revolution and Australian hoteliers have picked up the idea. Getaway has found two good examples in the heart of Melbourne's CBD.

Pensione-style accommodation has been extremely popular throughout Europe for many years. Generally small and family-run, they are more intimate than larger hotels and guests enjoy interaction with their hosts, should they choose.

The brand new Pensione Hotel in Melbourne was modelled on the original European pensione hotels. Its turn-of-the-20th-century building combines modern design and soft tones to create an inviting ambience. It complements its sister hotel in Sydney.

All 114 rooms have flexible bedding configurations with ensuite facilities, air conditioning, refrigerator and wireless Internet. La Pesche Café and Bar on the ground floor serves breakfast, coffee and cake and the bar is relaxing at the end of a busy day. Pensione Melbourne has a 15 square metre rooftop sundeck for guests to enjoy. It's a stroll to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Telstra Dome, Crown Casino and the fantastic Docklands with a wide choice of restaurants, cafés and bars.

Leo Pacific Hotel in the heart of Melbourne's CBD is a charming, six-storey building that has been extensively renovated and converted to a quality boutique hotel of 60 hotel rooms and studio apartments.

Situated on Little Bourke Street, there are loads of cafés, restaurants, boutiques, major department stores and Chinatown within walking distance.

You can also walk to Melbourne's theatres, QV and Melbourne Central malls, Rod Laver Arena and Telstra Dome.

The review that getaway did of this hotel was far from the truth. After watching the show my husband and i booked the leo pacific hotel for a short break to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary as the report said it was"small without compromising style and COMFORT" "quality boutique hotel". After checking in at 9pm we headed up to our room which was small (that was not a problem). We tried to turn on the air cond but it was not working so we had to get the receptionist up into our room to fix it as it was a cold Melbourne night. The bed was as hard as a plank of wood. There was actually some foam on top to try and make it softer. There was no sheet on the bed and the dona was very thin. After ringing reception to ask for another blanket we were told they had none. needless to say i was very upset with getaway for incorrectly advertising this hotel on the program
Hi is there a special code we need to enter when booking the Leo Pacific hotel, as i cant see the above rate anywhere on the given website. Or do i need to book through virgin? Thanks
