Boroka Downs

Thursday, March 21, 2002
Brendon heads for the ultimate in luxury right in the middle of Victoria's Grampians.

The Grampians is one of Victoria's most popular and beautiful national parks. It offers a great choice of places to stay — pubs, motels, youth hostels and camping grounds, but for something truly different, go no further than Boroka Downs.

Julian and Barbara Carr built Boroka Downs and describe their five magnificent, architect-designed luxurious accommodation as "boutique residences".

They are on 126 undulating hectares and share a one-kilometre border with the Grampians National Park. The Carrs planted 3000 trees on their property, and the added bush has encouraged visits from kangaroos, wallabies, emus and a multitude of birds.

The two-person residences provide complete privacy and spectacular unimpeded views of the surrounding ranges. Nothing has been compromised in providing a nature-based experience of international standards.

The interiors have been meticulously designed using the latest technology and include a surround sound stereo system, extensive video and CD library and 70cm flat screen German television with VCR.

There is a king-size bed with quality cotton sheets and pure wool doonas, an open wood fireplace, as well as reverse cycle air-conditioning. Enjoy the circular spa for two, with snug bathrobes and slippers and fluffy towels. A glass wall gives unimpeded views from the spa, bed and lounge areas, and seclusion and privacy are yours at all times.

Kitchens contain everything you could possibly need, with most appliances being discretely hidden, including a coffee machine and freshly ground coffee. If you want to self-cater, you just need to take the ingredients. If you are having a weekend away to escape the kitchen, there are plenty of restaurants in town, just seven kilometres away. There is a mini-bar in your room, as well as a selection of local wines.

For use during your stay, the Carrs have thought of everything, such as a bird book, binoculars, walking map, local history book and picnic basket.
