Diamond Island Ocean View Apartments

Thursday, May 31, 2007

Bicheno, on the east coast of Tasmania, is a place of white sand, surf, sea and sun. The pretty fishing town which was a whaling centre as early as 1803 is a popular holiday retreat for Tasmanians.

Diamond Island in Bicheno overlooks the island for which it is named. Clear water washes onto the beach just two minutes away and at low tide you can explore the island. At dusk you are entitled to watch a private performance of Fairy penguins returning to their nests to feed their young or continue the breeding cycle.

Diamond Island, just 2.5kms north of Bicheno, has 26 apartments with uninterrupted views to the north and south. Choose between one-bedroom, two-room, spa suite or executive apartment.

They all have simple contemporary lines, lots of light and are self-contained with kitchen facilities, air-conditioning and outdoor areas for eating and relaxing.

The resort is on 2.8 hectares of landscaped gardens with direct beach and foreshore access. Each accommodation has uninterrupted views of the coast.

The restaurant, Facets, looks out to sea and serves scrumptious local produce — fresh fish, shellfish, olives, dairy products and seasonal fruit and vegetables. Fine Tasmanian wine is available to complement your meal.

Enjoy a game of tennis, relax by the pool or explore some of the many interesting things in the area. Douglas Apsley National Park is to the north and Freycinet National Park is to the south. Governors Island Marine Reserve with fascinating underwater scenery and sea life is close by and a glass-bottom boat or scuba diving is recommended.

There are good vineyards and orchards to visit, beach and forest walks to enjoy, wildlife tours, adventure sports and even oyster tours!

In the town there's the Sea Life Centre where creatures of the deep swim in huge glass tanks. The town is also a centre for fishing, sailing, golf, tennis and other activities.
