Ben goes four-wheel driving at an adventure school perfect for those wanting to push the boundaries.
David and Rose Wilson own Adventure 4WD in the Adelaide Hills. They are committed to providing the best experiences and best advice for 4WD travel in Australia.
David is a highly qualified instructor who is often sought as a commentator on 4WD and safety issues. He loves South Australia and its wide array of great places to enjoy driving, favouring the Flinders Ranges and the state's west coast.
He is extremely aware and passionate about road and 4WD safety and believes many outback accidents could have been prevented with some knowledge.
Training courses give you skills which would take years of trial and error driving. With the fundamentals in place and the car kitted out, touring this vast continent can be a breeze.
If you join one of their tag-along self-drive trips, you will have the opportunity of further advancing your skills and seeing parts of the country you could miss on your own. The camaraderie and scenery combine to make your adventure memorable.
David drives the front vehicle and communicates with everyone via UHF radio. If you don't have one, he will fit one for the duration.
Many people joining the course have just purchased their first 4WD and David likes to make suggestions as to how they should fit their vehicles out. Everyone has different needs and it is easy to be confused and end up with bits and pieces you would never use.
One very handy thing the class will teach you is how to get out of difficulty. The property at Lyndoch is a new venue and offers various challenges, such as very damp and muddy, sandy and rocky. Better to gain experience with those conditions simulated than the real thing!
