SA budget accommodation... This three-storey mansion is a stroll from the beach, Glenelg's entertainment and its 5-star backpacking.
The owners of Glenelg Beach Resort, Geoff and Kathy Needs, are living their dream. Their own backpacking experiences have helped them become successful in providing every visitor with personal care and attention, and this has been rewarded by winning South Australia's Budget Accommodation Awards four years in a row.
The resort is in Alexandra Terrace, a three-storey mansion built in 1878. It is just 100m from the beach and a stroll from Glenelg's entertainment and shopping and a quick tram ride to the centre of Adelaide.
The accommodation is perfect for backpackers and large groups such as schools, sports clubs and conference delegates.
There are rooms that sleep 10-12 or four to eight in single or double beds, as well as self-contained family apartments.
Everyone is invited to the communal bar and entertainment area to join in karaoke, comedy and talent nights, or to listen to live cover bands. There are theme parties and quiz nights, as well as a barbecue area and beer garden, which is a great way to meet other guests and compare notes.
In winter months, the Needs host wine and South Australian cheese nights around the log fire.
They have pretty much covered everything travellers need. There is a discount travel centre, EFTPOS access, e-mail and Internet, and even an employment board. There is a kitchen for guests' use, mountain-bike hire and a private function venue.
Twenty minutes from Adelaide airport.
Glenelg Beach Resort accommodation starts at $15 per person, including all-you-can-eat breakfast.
Please note prices are valid at time of transmission and to the best of our knowledge are inclusive of GST.
