Vanessa Amorosi's wild Noosa unwind

Thursday, October 7, 2010
Jason Dundas, who moonlights as a DJ, couldn't wait to meet Vanessa Amorosi, one of Australia's most talented and awarded vocalists.

Her CV is pretty amazing. She is the first Australian female to reach number-one on the national ARIA chart with her debut album, and she was just 18! She's been nominated for eight ARIA awards and has an APRA award to her credit.

One of the hits on her latest album Hazardous is a song titled 'Holiday' — perfect for her appearance on Getaway.

Vanessa said Hazardous allowed her to learn more about herself and where she wanted to go as a songwriter and artist.

While she doesn't have many holiday breaks, Noosa, on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, is one of Vanessa's favourite holiday destinations. She loves the weather and the relaxed feel. She and Jason checked out a few of the local things to do, and knowing Vanessa, while she was relaxing she probably picked up some inspiration for a new song or two.

Noosa Dreamboats

The 6m-long mahogany twin cockpit Noosa Dream was handcrafted in the style of classic 1940s American powerboats. The glamorous style from a bygone era conjures up visions of millionaires and movie stars cruising the lakes of America and Europe.

Cruises head out from the Sheraton Jetty and glide along the Noosa River. They pass Noosaville, Tewantin, Richard Branson's Makepeace Island, Lake Cooroibah, around Noosa Sound and return to the river mouth in time for sunset.

It was the perfect place for Jason to ask Vanessa about her rise to fame and how she's handling it all. She loves touring, but after enduring a European winter she was over the moon to spend time in Noosa and soak up its warmth and holiday atmosphere.

Equathon Bush and Beach Horse Riding

Vanessa adores horses — she grew up with them and even owns a few, but Jason showed her a totally new experience. Equathon Bush and Beach Horse Riding allows you to have a look around the Sunshine Coast on the back of a beautiful Australian stock horse.

Owned by triple Olympic equestrian Alex Watson, you don't need to be an experienced rider to take part. Helmet, saddlery, gear and, of course, mount are provided. Riders are matched to just the right horse, depending upon weight, height and experience of both. Stock horses are known for their ability and good temperament.

Rides go along Teewah Beach and along tropical rainforest trails. You will see lots of native birds, kangaroos and koalas.

Equathon runs a number of other rides and horse programs. Visitors range from elite competition riders in a range of equestrian sports to those wanting a special holiday experience.

Hastings Street

Noosa's main street is where you find cafes, restaurants and shops. It runs along the beach and you see people in swimwear wandering along, enjoying an ice-cream or a cool drink. It's not at all like Europe in winter. No wonder Vanessa couldn't take the smile from her face!
