Sunshine Coast boys' weekend

11:30 AEST Thu Jul 29 2010
The new name is 'mancation' — made up of 'man' and 'vacation'. No girls, no wives, no mums and no work. Jason headed to Queensland's Sunshine Coast to join a group on a mancation and it all began at Big Kart Track.

Big Kart Track

The largest commercial go-kart track in Australia, it is 1.2km in length and 8m wide and is just the place to burn off some testosterone. It has big sweeping bends, challenging chicanes, lots of hairpins and long straits. It is of international standard and can run 50 karts at one time. There is a separate track for children.

Ferre De Deyne built the track and has run the business for the last 26 years and still gets a buzz as he see the chequered flag drop at the end of 10 crazy laps.

Suncoast Cable Watersports

If there's any testosterone remaining, this is the place to put it to use. Situated in the small community of Bli Bli, Suncoast Cable Watersports is the home of wakeboarding, the second fastest growing watersport in Australia after surfing. It also offers the largest range of knee boarding, skiing and wakeboarding obstacles, including three kickers, three floating flatbars, a dragon slider, A-Frame, step up slider, small box, giant funbox, C box and wedge, taxi box and rooftop rail.

There are only three cable parks in Australia and you're likely to run into some pros at Suncoast who can teach you a few moves.

The Retreat Beach Houses

Of course, when you're on a blokey weekend, you need somewhere to stay — to recover from activities and get ready for the next lot.

The Retreat Beach Houses on Peregian have absolute beachfront and exclusive beach access. They are nestled in sand dunes and native reserve.

There's a lagoon-style pool, all weather tennis court, barbecue entertainment area and secure undercover parking. There are outside hot and cold showers.

The free-standing architect-designed houses have one, two and thre bedrooms, a north-east facing balcony on each level, two bathrooms and a powder room, ceiling fans and a laundry so you can arrive home with a suitcase full of clean clothes!

The houses are close to the laid-back Peregian Beach Village where there are good places to eat and drink. Hastings Street in Noosa is just a 10 minute drive.

Noosa Heads Surf Lifesaving Club

Queensland is the only state where surf clubs are allowed to have bars and restaurants to help fund the lifesavers.

It welcomes visitors and is the best place to eat and enjoy a few drinks while overlooking the world famous beach.

You can try your luck on the poker machines, Keno or the TAB and if you happen not to win, you will be helping put lifesavers and equipment on the beach.

The club showcases the best in local music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights and karaoke on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.
