Rainbow Shores

Thursday, December 20, 2001
QLD budget accommodation... There's a beach for the surfers, golf for the golfers and a pool for the sun lovers ... this place has it all.

Rainbow Shores is a development of holiday and residential apartments with a nine-hole golf course. Surfside Villas have been developed by the Krauchi family and so far they have used just 50 of the 250 hectares they own. One of Queensland's most renowned contemporary architects, Lindsay Clare, was commissioned to design the Surfside Villas, and his brief from the Krauchis was that they wanted a beautiful and romantic location, using an existing and natural ecosystem and close — but not too close — to modern conveniences.

Most guests are return visitors because Surfside reminds them of Noosa 20 years ago: modern luxury in natural settings.

The 12 villas were individually designed and furnished. The one-bedroom villas are on two levels and the two- and three-bedroom villas are on three levels. All have a laundry and bathroom on the ground floor, with bedrooms, living room, dining room and kitchen on the upper levels. Cleverly designed louvres allow maximum ocean breeze. Rooms have television but no telephone, though there is a payphone near the barbecue area. Views are a delightful mix of bush and ocean.

There is private access to a section of Rainbow Beach that is now closed to four-wheel drive vehicles. There are walking trails through landscaped native gardens that are full of colourful blossoms. The village is just a kilometre away, along quiet roads or bikeways that wind through trees. There, you will find day-to-day essentials, restaurants, a hotel and banking facilities.

There is also a swimming pool with covered terrace equipped with a gas barbecue. There is a tennis court, and you can hire a bicycle to make the most of the special paths. There's plenty of bird life around the resort, and you will probably see goannas enjoying the sun and bush turkeys going about their day.

So, if the sound and smell of rolling surf, strolls along the coloured sands of Rainbow Beach and a lack of phones and traffic appeals to you, Surfside Villas could be just the place you need.
