Brampton Island

Thursday, June 15, 2006

Brampton Island is at the southern end of the Whitsunday Island Passage, 32km north-east of Mackay. The beautiful National Park island is surrounded by clear blue waters, 12 sandy beaches, soft and hard coral gardens and has a wide range of walking and jogging tracks, all with spectacular views.

It's one of those places you can just unwind and smell the salt water, or be more active than you have been in a long time. There's archery, badminton, croquet, bocce, aqua aerobics, beach and pool volleyball and an air-conditioned gymnasium. There are three night and day tennis courts, table tennis, a freshwater and seawater pool, six-hole golf course, massage demonstrations and stretch and relax classes.

With the wonderful amount of colourful marine life at your doorstep, snorkelling is one of the favourite activities to Voyages Brampton Island. Rejuvenating massage, facial or body wrap after a day in the ocean is the icing on the cake in the Sea Spa.

Voyages Brampton Island has four types of room. Premium ocean view rooms are right on the beach and offer the best perspectives. They have king beds, comfortable lounge chairs and contemporary furnishings. Bathrobes and aromatherapy oil burners are added touches.

Ocean view rooms are generous in size with double doors opening to a large balcony or terrace giving views of the Whitsunday Passage. Modern furnishings and splashes of colour add to their beachside feel.

Island view rooms are set among native gardens. They are compact and comfortable with tropical themed interiors. They have a balcony or patio with views to neighbouring Carlisle Island.

Palm rooms are light-filled with bright interiors, tropical outlook, each with balcony or outdoor area overlooking native gardens. Some have water glimpses.

Dining options are plentiful. Bluewater Restaurant and Beach Barbecue is open for every meal. Once a week they serve a seafood buffet, and Tuesday night is a Wok On Asian night. Beach barbecues are held regularly.

Aqua Lounge is an indoor/outdoor bar, which opens at 10am. Evening entertainment is featured while guests enjoy cocktails, smoothies, coffee and snack food.

Sea Salt at Brampton is for the romantic. Kick your shoes off and enjoy a glass of sparkling with accompanied by canapéls as the sun sets. Private tables are set on the edge of the seawater pool, and you enjoy a five-course dinner by soft candlelight.

Another memorable evening can be spent on a private dinner cruise. Whitsunday Romance dinner cruises are about seafood, sunsets, stars and togetherness. The captain of the Shearwater serves seafood, cheese and Australian wine as you head into the waters of the Whitsundays.

If you just fancy the indulgence of being on your own private beach, Voyages will take you there by boat, set up comfortable picnic chairs and umbrellas, picnic hamper and bubbly wine and pick you up when you want.
