Non-stop in the sun!
If you want sun, surf, scuba, snorkel, sail and swimming and basically loads of fun in between, then Fitzroy is the place to be.
Fitzroy is one of the Great Barrier Reef's 600 islands. Once part of the mainland and the Malbon Thompson Mountain Range, the rocks are the same as on the mainland. It is surrounded by a fringing reef.
Fitzroy has a growing reputation for being the place on the Reef for adventure, fun and brilliant nightlife. It is budget priced, giving everyone the chance to enjoy an island holiday.
Just 45 minutes by ferry from Cairns, it's popular with day-trippers. There is one resort on the island owned by Raging Thunder Adventures. Their boat, Thunderbolt, takes passengers to the reef in just 22 minutes. Most cruise vessels take one to one-and-a-half hours, so it's an exhilarating journey.
There's plenty to do on Fitzroy walking through the National Park, snorkelling on the coral reefs, diving, swimming or just lazing by the pool.
The 1.8km Lighthouse Walk is easy. Just wear comfortable clothing and shoes, take water and you will be rewarded with marvellous scenery, including dense rainforest, dry eucalypt scrub and the forest creatures who live there.
The 500-metre Secret Garden Walk begins at Raging Thunder Bar. Take along swimming gear and drinking water and you will see stag horns and elk horns, vines, funghi and figs, reptiles, birds and butterflies.
Nudie Beach is a 1.8km round walk. You'll need water, snorkelling gear and swimmer costume, which may be removed on arrival if you wish. You'll see coastal she-oak, screw palms, mangroves, funghi, eucalypt woodland, ferns and lots of coastal vegetation.
Accommodation is made up of beachfront cabins with ensuites and beach bunkhouses with dormitory sleeping. It jumps at night, with the bar and nightclub the centre of nocturnal activities.
