Last year we asked Getaway
viewers to help us and Hotel Club, the on-line reservations giant, search for the best hotels in Australia and New Zealand. Over 74,000 of you answered that call and tonight we kick off a series of stories showcasing the winners, including the Best Luxury Hotel category, that has been won by the Palazzo Versace.
The Versace family chose Queensland's Gold Coast as the place for their first hotel. As with everything they create, it is a place of Renaissance splendour and elegance.
Donatella Versace's passion is creating trends in fashion and decorating, and in the hotel she has brought together influences and inspirations from around the world.
The hotel has 205 rooms, 72 two- and three-bedroom condominiums and a private marina on the edge of the Gold Coast's Broadwater. Italian architecture and craftsmanship has been used with meticulous detail throughout. Marbles and mosaics, delicate china and exquisite furnishings, bathroom amenities, robes and slippers brought in from Italy make the Palazzo Versace a very special place.
All guest rooms have a spa, Versace homewares, accessories and fragrances. A private butler is on hand to assist with unpacking and packing, as well as other services.
The hotel has five lagoon pools and a man-made beach.
There are three restaurants Vanitas, Vie on the Boardwalk and Il Barocco. Le Jardin serves cocktails, drinks, coffee and traditional afternoon tea. The pool bar serves drinks and snacks.
Salus per Aquum Spa is a European-style spa offering personal training, yoga, tai chi, hydrotherapy, beauty and massage treatments.
The Gianni Versace Boutique offers a range of Versace accessories, make-up, homewares, wallets, handbags, costume jewellery, scarves, fragrances and shoes, as well as clothing from a variety of the fashion house's ranges.
