Coolangatta Pet Motel

Jules Lund visited the Pet Motel, which has operated for 15 years as a kennel for dogs and cats, but over the past year or so, Camp Tailwaggers Holiday Cabins was born.

Pet owners will have experienced the difficulty in holidaying with their best friends, but at Camp Tailwaggers the 10 self-contained cabins are for you and your dog. They are four-paw, and dogs are allowed to sleep on or under the beds. There's a fenced dam where dogs can enjoy a swim, and an enclosed exercise yard as well as 5km of walking tracks through rainforest.

The camp has a pet-first attitude and the management believes the pets deserve the same comforts as their owners.

If you want to head off to visit or explore places where dogs aren't allowed, Camp Tailwaggers offers a dog-sitting service.

An indoor training centre, grassed rings for obedience, agility work and dancing lessons are all there so your dog might go home with some extra abilities under its collar. There are training camps with top international trainers every month.

Even if you aren't interested in training camps, you're still welcome to enjoy a break with your pet and participate in the Camp Tailwaggers Dog Club. Lessons are on Tuesday and Saturday mornings and Thursday nights.

Lessons have obedience, agility, show handling, dances with dogs and training videos. Refreshments are served, there's a fenced-in play area and lots of fun and games to be enjoyed.

While it's mainly all about dogs, cats haven't been forgotten. There's a cosy cattery if you need somewhere for your puss to stay.

Self-contained cabins are $88 a night. They have lounge, dining room, bedroom and kitchen. They are air-conditioned and all linen crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are provided. Beds, bowls and enclosed front yard are there for the pets.
