Most people are fascinated by magicians. They are just so clever. Jules Lund is no exception and like most of us wants to know how they do it.
He went behind the scenes at Joe Labero's new show, Genesis: The magic spectacular, which is premiering at Jupiters Hotel & Casino on Queensland's Gold Coast before travelling the world.
Swedish born Joe Labero is one of the greatest illusionists the world has ever seen. It all began when he was 12 when he was given a magic box. He practised, entertained at parties and dances and decided to become a professional way back then.
Joe is renowned for showcasing his magic on a large scale while still being personal and amazingly energetic. Every one of his moves establishes a feeling with his audience. He has been named Illusionist Showman of the Decade at the Merlin Awards.
The multimillion-dollar spectacular show took five years to plan. About 45,000 hours went into creating recorded visuals, 12,000 hours to make the sets and he rehearsed more than 500 hours before the first show. The props fill eight shipping containers.
There's a star-studded cast of 30 performers, including local talent, international acrobats and assistants. The Genesis production team comes from five countries. The Chicago's is an internationally acclaimed acrobatic troupe which performed at the famed Moulin Rouge in Paris for seven years.
Membership in professional magicians' organisations often requires a solemn commitment to the magician's oath never to reveal the secrets of magic to non-magicians.
Even in an empty theatre one-on-one with Joe, Jules just couldn't figure out how he did his tricks. He had to admit being totally dumbfounded, just like everyone else in Joe's audiences around the world.
