Gold Coast Helicopter

Thursday, July 19, 2007

A helicopter flight is one of the most exciting things going, particularly if you are flying over the ocean and long sandy beaches.

Gold Coast Helicopters operate six helicopters in all fields of aviation: aerial lifting, photography, charter, scenic tours, training and firefighting/support. Their greatest priority is safety and they work closely with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

You can board one of their flights at Coolangatta Airport, Jupiter's Casino, Fisherman's Wharf or Seaworld

They have several options, starting with the Short But Sweet six-minute flight over Coolangatta, Tweed Heads and the Surfers Paradise skyline.

Next choice is a 12-minute flight along the beaches, past Currumbin Point en route to Burleigh Heads National Park and foreshore escarpment.

Their most popular tour is 20 minutes, flying over Mt Warning towards Tumbulgum, an 1840s cedar logging village. After a sweeping turn towards the coast, you descend to 150 metres above the Tweed Valley floor and follow the Tweed River as it meanders to Point Danger on the coast.

The Surfers Paradise tour takes 30 minutes and heads north above breaking waves, with the hinterland forming a marvellous backdrop. See the high-rises of Surfers Paradise, Burleigh Heads National Park, Currumbin Point and Point Danger.

The 45-minute Mt Warning Spectacular flight saves you walking to the summit, the central plug to one of the world's oldest and largest extinct volcanoes, towering 1100 metres above the Tweed Valley coastline. The return flight follows the Tweed River to Point Danger, the headland of Coolangatta, Tweed Heads and the gateway to the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast Helicopter tours start at $55 per person for six minutes with a minimum of two adults. The 45-minute Mt Warning flight is $315 per person and there are other tours of varying lengths.
