Tall Ship Sailing Cruises

18:00 AEST Thu Sep 23 2004

We set sail on a voyage of discover as we leave the high rise jungle and head to paradise.

The square rigged tall ship Sir Henry Morgan was built in 1970, but has a most colourful history for a vessel so young. It was built by a retired New Zealand naval architect, but a nasty divorce prevented him from ever sailing her. Her first duty was as a floating brothel and illegal casino in Sydney Harbour — a fleeing crew set fire to her while trying to escape the police.

The ship was salvaged, completely rebuilt, refurbished, refitted and relaunched and now lives a reputable life on Queensland's Gold Coast. In fact, she is the star of the Tall Ship fleet.

Tall Ship Sailing Cruises has been operating since 1994 and offer a great range of experiences in an elegant tall ship.

Two-hour cruises sail one way to Sanctuary Cove, with morning tea and an informative commentary on the history of the Gold Coast.

A full-day experience includes a morning tea stop at Sanctuary Cove and delicious lunch at their McLarens Landing private homestead on South Stradbroke. There you will see kangaroos, monitor lizards and kookaburras wandering around the gardens. You can four-wheel drive along the beach, swim, jetski, windsurf, sail, parafly or seaplane, all before the return cruise.

Their full-day tropical island calm water sailing cruise to Couran Cove Eco Resort is primarily a walking and guided tour, including morning tea, lunch and a choice of activities before your return cruise.

The ultimate day tour in paradise includes sailing, a luncheon feast and entertainment at the island homestead, optional four-wheel drive tour and water sports.

A full-day high speed adventure cruise runs each Thursday to McLarens Homestead, including lunch and a big choice of amusements.

Romantic sunset dinner cruises offer an experience you will never forget. Marvellous food, bubbly wine, views and a touch of romance.
