Natalie continues her search for accommodation through the Gold Coast from the ritziest hotel to the most tranquil of retreats.
The Gold Coast has great accommodation for every budget and Getaway has come up with a cross-section of four good places to choose from when planning your next holiday in the region.
Sheraton Mirage Gold Coast is the only resort with absolute beachfront. From their Ocean and Executive Suites you can walk straight on to the sand. All rooms have pleasing outlooks the ocean, the lagoon complete with white swans, or the 15ha of lush tropical gardens.
The resort has won many awards and is a low-set complex, getting away from the high rises which dominates the rest of the coast.
Its Golden Door Club at Mirage features a team of 30 health professionals, personal trainers, beauty therapists, masseuses, tennis coaches, swim squad, tennis courts, solar heated pool and pilates equipment.
You can enjoy a cool drink in Breakers, try the freshly shucked oysters at the Oyster Bar, relax at the Oasis Pool Bar and Grill, dine in Terraces or Horizons elegant restaurant and on Friday and Saturday nights you can kick your heels up in Rolls Nightclub.
The Governor's Retreat offers something quite different. Only half an hour from the heart of the coast, it is in the bush of Mt Tamborine, 550m above sea level. The two hectares are on the banks of Guanaba Creek which has majestic waterfalls and is home to native birds and wildlife.
There are just six villas, each with four-poster bed, fireplace, double spa, high roof and Indonesian furniture. Beautiful gardens are well-tended, and the whole retreat is surrounded by rainforest.
The Health Spa has a seemingly endless range of treatments and pampering services. They offer hydrotherapy, exfoliation, body wraps, reflexology and other delicious treats to help you relax and enjoy your stay.
Back at the beach, the 31 storey Aegean Apartments feature excellent accommodation and some great views of the ocean, hinterland or tropical gardens. The one- and two- bedroom apartments are air-conditioned, have a spacious lounge/dining room, fully-equipped kitchen, ceiling fans in bedrooms, ensuite, balcony, safe and internal laundry.
There are also outdoor and indoor pools, spa, saunas, air-conditioned gymnasium, tennis court (equipment hire is available), restaurant, bar and secure undercover parking. Their tour desk will help with visits to Seaworld, Movieworld, Dreamworld and all the other attractions on offer in the area. The patrolled surf beach is just 200m away and the popular Cavill Avenue is close by too.
Just across from the Sheraton is the Broadwater Tourist Park. It has waterfront accommodation in cabins, caravan or camping sites.
The 14 four-and-a-half star cabins all have balconies overlooking the water where swimming and canoeing are very popular activities. One cabin is completely wheelchair-friendly.
The park has 240 sites for caravans and campervans, as well as unpowered sites for camping. There are 12 ensuite sites where you have the added comfort of your own bathroom with shower, toilet and vanity.
There is a heated pool, tennis court, kiosk, recreation room, camp kitchen, barbecue, laundry and boat ramp.
Whichever one of these great options you choose to suit your needs, you can be assured of a happy holiday on Queensland's Gold Coast!
