Cairns is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, a natural phenomenon stretching 2400 kilometres along the Coral Sea. It is where rainforest meets water and offers a wonderful variety of attractions for every kind of holiday.
Getaway took a flight with Great Barrier Reef Helicopters in one of their Bell turbine aircraft. It was flown by Johanna Adams, former catwalk model and now experienced pilot with a great knowledge of the reef.
Great Barrier Reef Helicopter Group is the largest and most experienced operator in Tropical North Queensland. Owned by a local family and staffed by dedicated professionals, they have been operating since the late 1990s. They work with four major reef cruise operators out of Cairns and Port Douglas.
Natalie and Joanna flew to Vlassof Sand Cay in the middle of the reef. On the way you can spot turtles, dugongs and manta rays.
After touchdown you can swim, snorkel and relax under a sun-shade before enjoying tropical fruits, assorted cheeses, Danish pastries and juice. You can enjoy a glass of champagne if that takes your fancy!
