Reef Sprinter, QLD

Thursday, June 5, 2008
Far North Queensland is all about relaxing and enjoying the region's abundant supply of natural beauty. Its tropical climate offers wonderful lush plant life, long sunny days and a place where nothing moves too quickly.

Its biggest drawcard is the Great Barrier Reef, one of the world's most awe-inspiring natural wonders.

To venture to the reef to snorkel among the colourful coral gardens, tropical fish and rich marine life can mean spending a big part of the day just getting there and back — but if you'd prefer to have more time in the water, Getaway has the answer.

Reef Sprinter can have you snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef with 15 minutes of leaving the Port Douglas jetty. A 40-knot ride aboard the custom-built and comfortable Reef Sprinter, which carries up to just 14 passengers, is exhilarating and exciting. Its large, rubber tubes act as water deflectors, so despite the spray, you will stay dry.

Even if the wind is up, they guarantee a great ride out to their exclusive and protected mooring at the pristine Low Isles Reef. Reef Sprinter is one of only three operators to hold a mooring in the World Heritage site.

They have two-hour morning, noon and afternoon trips and you get to spend one-and-a-half precious hours exploring the magical world of the Reef.

The Low Isles Reef is healthy and robust with about 190 different types of hard coral and 100 soft coral polyps that are responsible for creating the Great Barrier Reef.

Reef Sprinter was used as the cast boat for Matthew McConaughey, Donald Sutherland and Kate Hudson when they filmed the movie Fool's Gold. What a fantastic way to get to work every day!
