Sebel Surry Hills Sydney

Thursday, August 13, 2009
When Catriona Rowntree was in Sydney recently, someone suggested she have a look at the new Sebel Hotel in Surry Hills. Citigate Sebel Sydney has had a $20 million refurbishment and been rebranded as The Sebel Surry Hills Sydney.

The 4.5-star hotel has 270 superior and deluxe rooms, as well as studio and deluxe suites, with all the luxuries expected of a Sebel property. It has a sun-drenched 20m indoor pool for lap swimming, heated spa and sauna, gymnasium and rooftop sundeck where guests can enjoy a coffee with the morning paper or an afternoon drink.

Albies Restaurant & Bar on the first floor has innovative menus for breakfast every day and dinner from Monday to Saturday. If you're heading out to the theatre, enjoy an early dinner and maybe a nightcap when you return.

Townhouse Bar & Restaurant on the ground floor is modern and comfortable and serves traditional pub fare with a modern twist. Great for a business lunch or a casual dinner with friends, the staff creates delicious cocktails and the bar has 12 beers on tap. Walls are adorned with autographed celebrity photographs, which many people will remember from the original Sebel Townhouse in Elizabeth Bay. In its heyday, the Sebel attracted every famous person who came to town, and it had a bar that never closed.

The lobby features a 41,000-litre aquarium, home to 20 Japanese koi.

The location is close to Darling Harbour, Star Casino, the Entertainment Centre and Capital Theatre, Fox Studios, Hordern Pavilion and many more Sydney attractions.

Spent $399 for a night expecting luxury. Expectations not met. Check-in process and timeliness was atrocious. Cleanliness of bathroom was wanting. Room was very average (we had deluxe - hate to see what standard was !). Breakfast was very average. Give it a miss and move on to something better.
