Chic in the City

Thursday, November 6, 2008
Chic in the City is owned by Siobhan Young, who decided to share her knowledge of Sydney's hidden shopping secrets with other women. Siobhan has a Singaporean and Irish background and is fluent in Spanish and French, so she gives tours a true international flavour.

Shopping was always a hobby and passion with Siobhan and her European-style experience is very special.

She takes between one and seven clients on her tours and individually tailors them, taking into consideration age, lifestyle and dress size of customers. She makes sure the places you visit will not disappoint. She has handpicked the best of Sydney's independent and emerging labels for her half-day shopping tours.

Brooke Benson left her previous occupation as a DJ around Sydney's club scene to follow her first love: fashion. Her designs are unique and eccentric and she chose New York City as the place to launch her first complete collection. She has since launched her second collection. Her pieces are designed to be something you will keep forever, rather than following the functional but mass-produced market. Devotees include Delta Goodrem and the Veronicas, and Brooke can be found behind the counter most days enjoying interacting with customers and offering a personal experience. You will be enchanted by the kimono silks, brocades and chiffons Brooke uses in her creations.

Dirty Pretty Things resembles a boudoir from Moulin Rouge. Melissa Gallagher was a florist for many years before opening her store — a tribute to great underwear. Melissa stocks wearable, but fun and cheeky undergarments from local designers as well as international pieces. She loves the secret confidence a great set of smalls seems to give a girl, no matter what she's wearing over the top.

At the end of a hard day of shopping and decision-making, clients are treated to a soothing hand massage at Jo Malone's. Jo Malone is the fragrance house synonymous with London's Sloane Square. Lime, basil and mandarin are the signature scents of Jo Malone but you're sure to love the honeysuckle and jasmine aromas.

Around the trendy fashion streets of Sydney.
