Triathlete JR stays fit by pounding the pavements of Sydney's CBD and decided to start taking people with him to share some of the sights of the city. The run is a very popular option with tourists, particularly pilots from the United States who often only have a short amount of time to see Sydney while they also want to stretch their legs.
While JR prefers to conduct one-on-one runs, he will take two people. The route he takes is dependent upon the person's running ability and their general interests. For those interested in Sydney's history, they will stop at places such as the ANZAC War Memorial, the Opera House, Mrs Macquaries Chair, St Mary's Cathedral, The Rocks or The Domain. It they are looking for an intensive workout session, that's fine too.
A typical run covers around 10-12km and starts and finishes at your hotel in town at whatever time you choose. The run Getaway did with JR started and finished at the new Storrier Hotel in Potts Point. It is the first in a chain of Australian hotels based on an Australian art theme.
Tim Storrier was the youngest artist at the age of 19 to be awarded the coveted Sulman Prize. The award was given early in a successful career, and Tim Storrier is one of Australia's most respected and sought-after artists.
The contemporary painter poignantly expresses the Australian landscape, its vibrancy and moods. In recent years, the painter's subject matter has extended to depicting the luminescent southern skies and the ocean. The hotel bearing the painter's name is an Art Deco building which has been transformed into a boutique hotel.
The lobby and restaurant have pink granite floors and polished white-wave marble bar and reception desk. Avant-garde fabrics and flamingo motif wallpapering give a fun feel, and chandeliers create opulence. Colour combinations and tones used throughout were inspired by the works of Tim Storrier. His works are displayed throughout the property.
There are 70 rooms, with no two the same. Black, chocolate and caramel colours have been beautifully blended, and all rooms have the latest technology of plasma screen television and iPod docking stations.
For wining and dining, Red Belly restaurant and bar offers a contemporary à la carte menu for breakfast and dinner. The rooftop terrace has wonderful views of the Sydney skyline, day and night.
