Flying into Jonah's
Flying into Jonah's
The view
One of the rooms

Jonah's sits high on a cliff overlooking Whale Beach. It offers amazing scenery, excellent food and accommodation. All this just 50 minutes from Sydney by road or 12 minutes by seaplane from Rose Bay.

Jonah’s opened in 1927, when ₤2 was all you needed as a deposit on a building block. It was the only building on its section of the beach. Since then it has been a roadhouse, nightclub and fine dining location, always with an air of opulence. It has hosted the Duke of Edinburgh, Lawrence Olivier, Vivien Leigh, Anthony Hopkins, Mick Jagger and many well-known locals.

Richard Purdue, Jonah’s award-winning chef, concentrates on presenting modern Australian cuisine, but he can cook almost anything. Richard’s signature dishes are herb-crusted bass groper fillet with cauliflower puree and fried artichokes and warm chocolate fondant with cinnamon ice cream and brandy snaps.

There is a list of around 400 wines to choose from, including many back vintages, rare wines and some very special vintage champagne. The outdoor terrace is available as a private room. Two fireplaces provide a cosy ambience in cool weather.

Jonah’s is a place to celebrate special occasions, even weddings, and is a wonderful treat for visitors to Sydney.

Jonah’s also has eight guestrooms and a penthouse. The original accommodation was levelled and the replacement takes better advantage of the views. Jonah’s also manages the next door bed and breakfast, which has three ocean retreat rooms, with balconies giving sweeping views, and a pool. Room service is available throughout the day.

Jonah's is open for lunch every day, dinner from Wednesday to Sunday and breakfast on weekends.

Seaplane Safaris is the largest seaplane operator on Sydney Harbour. They have a fleet of beautifully-restored six-passenger de Havilland Beaver aircraft and a four-passenger Cessna 185 seaplane. These are maintained to the highest quality and offer wonderful scenic flights.

Whale Beach, one of Sydney’s northern-most beaches.

Seaplane Safaris have flight, dinner, bed and breakfast packages departing from Rose Bay, starting at $572 per person, twin share.
Jonah’s bed and breakfast packages are $399 a couple, available between Sunday and Thursday. Friday and Saturday three-course dinner, bed and a la carte breakfast is $650 a couple.
Please note that the prices listed are valid at the time of filming.
