Francine goes on a shopping spree in the divine Sydney Strand Arcade.
The Strand Arcade offers a fashion styling service for individuals. Sarah Bevis is an independent fashion stylist but is the resident stylist at The Strand.
A typical session would involve having a chat to her for about 10-20 min. to let her know what you want- be it bringing photos and pictures of the look you want or asking her to advise you on a style that is new, modern, cutting edge, different, feminine, corporate, dressy- anything that suits and flatters you!
Then she takes you through the many specialty stores around The Strand and advises you on what to wear and how to wear it. Each piece that you like is recorded and set aside for you but there is no pressure to buy anything. Sarah has been styling for 5 years and 30% of her clients are males.
When the Strand Arcade opened in 1892 it was the fifth and the last of the arcades built in Victorian Sydney. Today it is the only one remaining in its original form. The Strand Arcade is Sydney’s centre of style and design, housing many of Australia’s top designer labels, jewellers, unique shops and beauty salons.
The ground floor is a browser’s adventure for men’s fashion, Australiana, antiques, collectables and giftware stores such as Sydney Vintage Watches, Strand Hatters for Akubra hats, past present future for Alessi home-wear, the Jurlique Salon for natural products and treatments and the Old Coffee Shop, a tenant since 1892, still serving coffee from an authentic "Bezzera" coffee machine.
Level one is the Designer Fashion gallery showcasing some of Australia’s hottest designers such as Alannah Hill, Wayne Cooper, Third Millennium, and men’s wear from Farage. Dinosaur Design and Love and Hatred are also popular for inspired modern jewellery.
Level two is the specialty gallery including unisex beauty and health salons, shoe repairs and clothing alteration service. Victoria Buckley is a young jewellery designer and Raphael Jewellers are winners and finalists of the De Beers Diamond Facets Awards.
