The W Hotel

The 104-year-old Finger Wharf at Woolloomooloo is heritage listed and full of character, and the perfect choice as your next dining venue!

The 104-year-old Finger Wharf at Woolloomooloo on Sydney Harbour is heritage listed and full of character. It was used for wheat and wool export, and is also the point where the Anzacs sailed for Gallipoli.

Over the last eight years, the area has had a complete refurbishment and facelift and it was chosen as the site for the first W Hotel to be built outside North America. The design team had to retain many features of the original structure and in some rooms there are massive iron girders across the ceiling.

The 104 rooms are spread over three floors and all have CD and video player, Internet access and Botanical bath products. Bathrooms are ultra modern with a metallic scheme and Japanese lacquered tiles. The W has a small gym and an indoor 25-metre surface tension lap pool with small outdoor deck.

Lighting plays an important part in setting the mood for The W, which has been described as very modern, chic and cosy. There are lots of arrangements of red and blue lights and tea candles which create a unique W atmosphere.

There is a vast space called the Living Room with lots of high-back chairs and ottomans where guests can relax with a game of backgammon or chess. In recognition of the site's former link with the wool industry, there is even a one-off sheepskin-covered armchair in the reception area.

With so much emphasis on service, there's a high staff-member-per-guest ratio, and each staff member has a choice of elegant uniform, depending upon the area they are working in.

For dining there is the à la carte W Cafe, and the Water Bar is a buzzy place for cocktails and after-dinner drinks.

The complex is seconds away from a choice of six restaurants which are run independently from The W, ranging from one of Sydney's most popular Italian eating places, Otto, to Japanese cuisine and seafood.
