Gerringong and Gerroa are delightfully sleepy coastal villages on the south coast of New South Wales, surrounded by soft green dairy farmland, mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Views are gorgeous and beaches are perfect for walking, swimming and fishing. There is plenty of native flora as well as colourful parrots, kangaroos, emus and wombats.
Just south of Gerroa is magnificent Seven Mile Beach. It is protected within its own National Park and backed by stands of grand forests.
A memorial marks the spot on Seven Mile Beach where pioneer aviator Charles Kingsford-Smith took off for his 1933 flight to New Zealand aboard Southern Cross.
New to the area is the Bellachara Boutique Hotel in Gerringong. It is small and luxurious with a restaurant and wine lounge, day spa, two pools, tennis court and a supervised club for children.
Rooms are styled in rich chocolate and white, with crisp white bed linen, long and deep baths or double walk-in showers. All rooms have balconies, terraces or garden views and accommodate up to four guests.
Bellachara Restaurant & Wine Lounge is highly contemporary. Rich reds and chocolate, leather and wood textures work beautifully together. The chef and his staff develop seasonal menus and as a result the south coast has reached a new level of culinary sophistication.
Guests may enjoy pre or post-dinner drinks in the courtyard or relax in leather lounges by the fire in the informal dining area. The formal but intimate dining room has fine table linen and attentive service, something experienced throughout Bellachara.
