This self-contained cottage has all the ingredients of a perfect weekend away … it just needs you!
Most people know that Berry, just 2½ hours south of Sydney, has a great variety of arts, crafts, antique shops, cafes and bakeries, but Getaway has discovered the town's secret.
Just five minutes from town on a hectare of hinterland in Woodhill Mountain is a chalet-style cottage called Secrets on the Ridge.
The self-contained cedar cottage, tucked away in rainforest, has all the makings of a great weekend. You take along your food and beverages and the picture is complete.
The chalet's loft has two queen size bedrooms, each with balcony giving views across the beautiful valley to Seven Mile Beach. There is also a bathroom on that level.
Downstairs is a single room, perfect for a siesta or if you have an extra person staying. There is another bathroom and laundry.
The polished timber kitchen has all amenities and shares a large space with the lounge and dining areas. Furnishings are comfortable and the air-conditioner and wood burner make it an ideal escape in all seasons. The large deck is where most visitors like to enjoy breakfast.
During daylight you can soak in the views, enjoy being surrounded by nature and maybe even receive a visit from a local wombat family!
The dam is a perfect place for a picnic, and resident ducks are always ready for food.
If you can tear yourself away from the chalet, the beautiful beaches of Gerroa, Gerringong and Werri are a few minutes' drive away, but chances are you will want to make the most of your hidden chalet.
This secret getaway is sure to relax you and sweep away city cobwebs. Like most visitors, you are more than likely to promise yourself a return visit.
