Bonville International Golf Course.
Bonville International Golf Course has officially been voted Australia's most beautiful course two years in a row.
It is set amongst 250 hectares of native forest with very tall flooded gums and other natives lining the fairway on many of the holes.
Electric buggies have been modified to a whisper so golfers can enjoy the sound of birdsong while they are playing.
Buggy hire is mandatory at Bonville because of the sheer size of the course. It actually has 20 holes, the extra two (9B and 17B) are dominated by water and offer extra challenge.
It is very much a woods course there are only six par three holes. Making up the 20 holes are 9 par 4 and 5 par 5 holes.
The green cannot always been seen from the tee, so native grass trees and sprinkler heads are used as distance markers. One grass tree = 100 metres to the centre of the green, two = 150 metres and three = 200 metres.
There are 30 spacious suites at the resort, all overlooking the first tee or first fairway. There are Japanese-style spas, a cocktail bar, massage and beauty treatments and the Flooded Gums Restaurant serves wonderful meals.
The pool has been designed in a natural-looking billabong style with palms, rocks and beautiful gardens. There are three floodlit tennis courts and bushwalking tracks through the surrounding forest.
Near Coffs Harbour, six hours north of Sydney.
Bonville International Golf Resort packages start at $155 per person. Accommodation, breakfast, 18 holes and buggy hire are included. They run year round.
