Take a ride on the Bigfoot with Brendon … This is no sweet ride, this is a fast and hard bone-rattling one!
Getaway filmed Chris Piggott's Argo Tour a few years ago. It was an adventurous rough-riding tour through the bush and grasslands of the Raleigh Raceway. The Argo is an eight-wheel off-road vehicle with an open top with rollbars to protect riders.
The two kilometre track runs over an old logging track which has lots of dips and climbs, including one dip which goes right under a log, a splash through the creek and lots of skidding through sawdust, as well as an amazing climb which is so steep you would think you were about to topple off.
As fun as it was, the Argo took just four or five people so Chris designed and built himself a Bigfoot which is much larger. It is an all-terrain vehicle with enormous tyres and a body which takes 10 people.
Bigfoot is 3.6m high, three metres wide and has a specially modified 200hp engine. It is painted army-style and was actually built on-site at the raceway.
While it only travels at 30km/h, it gives the feeling of going much faster because passengers are so far off the ground and the hills and dips make it feel dangerous and exciting.
The track required some modification as Bigfoot is so much larger than the Argo it still goes into the dip but the log had to be removed. The creek crossing still happens Bigfoot can go through 1.5ms of water and the big climb is there to be enjoyed.
If you want an adventure which rattles your bones, you will find Bigfoot in the forest in Raleigh, just 20 minutes south of Coffs Harbour.
