One Mile Beach

Thursday, October 25, 2001
Take the family, mates or go solo. Either way, slothing on six hectares of absolute beach frontage sounds too good to be true.

Just north of Sydney are the thriving areas of Port Stephens and Nelson Bay. Nearby is Anna Bay and the One Mile Beach Holiday Park. It is on six hectares of absolute beach frontage and was voted the Best Tourist Park in NSW in 2000.

Caravan parks have certainly changed over the years. While those who want to can still rough it on their holidays, there is plenty of provision for those who still like a bit of luxury on a camping holiday.

Graeme and Lesley Judd provide five types of cabin accommodation, varying from three- to five-star.

The two beach houses are five-star, fully self-contained houses with three bedrooms, television, video, CD player and laundry. They sleep up to eight.

Spa villas are also fully self-contained, with spa, but have two bedrooms and sleep six people. There are 10 of these.

The 13 deluxe villas also sleep up to six, but they don't have a spa, video or CD player.

The three-and-a-half-star villas are a little older than the other cabins, but have most of the same facilities. There are 14 villas and they sleep four to five people each.

Standard cabins sleep up to four and are a little smaller and a little older.

They also have powered van sites, some with ensuite facilities. There are amenities blocks throughout the park with coin-operated showers, toilets and laundry facilities. They can accommodate 1000 people at any one time.

One Mile Beach is patrolled and is great for surfing, walking and fishing.

If you feel like something else other than going to the beach, be prepared; there are loads of things to do there. They have a tennis court, putt-putt golf course, resort-style pool with slippery dip and waterfall, child's playground and games room.

There is a recreation room with giant television, camp kitchen, barbecue, kiosk and bird aviary. Keep your eyes open for local wildlife, including koalas and roaming peacocks.

2½ hours north of Sydney.

One Mile Beach Holiday Park beach houses are from $170 per couple per night. Powered sites are from $22 a night. Other rates on application.
Please note prices are valid at time of transmission and to the best of our knowledge are inclusive of GST.
