Inside Telegraph Retreat.
Want a romantic escape in a luxury cottage nestled in the Port Macquarie hinterland? Relax in the spa on your verandah as you absorb the beauty of the Australian bush.
Ian and Robyn Whitehead have decorated their cottage in Federation style, and it has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to eight people so it can be a romantic getaway, a family holiday or a great place for a group of friends to spend some time together. There are never other guests there, so you are assured tranquillity and privacy.
The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen with stocked pantry, but if you feel like a break from cooking you can enjoy a silver-service dinner in the cottage or the main house dining room. Breakfast is a delicious array of eggs, cereals, juice, jam and freshly baked bread, or the Whiteheads will prepare and serve a full hot breakfast if you wish.
The bathroom has a full-size claw bath, separate shower and large ornate timber vanity. There is a toilet in the bathroom and a second toilet and vanity in the cottage.
If you have children with you, the Whiteheads' children are happy to share their trampoline and cubby house, and they can also help feed the geese and collect the chicken eggs. Reliable babysitters can be arranged if you want to slip out to one of the local restaurants.
To add to the feeling of being pampered, you can enjoy thick towelling robes, king-size bath towels and quality linen, and you can even arrange to have a qualified masseur give you an aromatherapy massage in the cottage.
To top it all off there's a heated 12-metre pool to enjoy, or you might prefer to drive to Port Macquarie for an ocean swim, visit the wineries, heritage theme park, dairy farm, galleries or go horse-riding.
