The Casuarina Country Inn has nine fantasy theme suites in luxury five-star accommodation. It sits on a 10-hectare vineyard at the foot of the Brokenback Ranges.
The owners searched the world for items to decorate their split-level suites and ended up with an eclectic array of treasures. All suites have a similar floor plan, with the sleeping area elevated above the spacious lounge area and French doors which open to a shady verandah where guests can soak in views of the vineyard. There are DVD players with a selection of movies and split system air-conditioning.
Susie Wong's Suite is decorated with Asian antiques, including an 1870s authentic opium bed, modified to western tastes.
The most popular suite is the Bordello. Its king bed sits on a pedestal and has voluminous pink drapes at each corner.
The two-level Casanova's Loft is a rustic turn-of-the-century romantic hideaway furnished with French antiques with a grand staircase leading to the bedroom.
The Love Boat features brass fittings, portholes, prism lamps and lustrous oak woodwork. It even has a ship's wheel and gangplank.
Out of Africa is a blend of northern and southern Africa, with grand furniture and authentic décor.
Casablanca has an ornate, inlaid bedroom suite, jarrah ceiling and canopied bed draped in Chinese silk.
Palais Royale is lush and elegant. Fabulous fabrics and a canopy bed, complemented by a Louis chaise, create a true French feel.
Romeo's Retreat has an antique bed capped by cascading sheers. You can see the vineyards from the spa and there are mirrors everywhere.
Vineyard Lodge is decorated in country blue, white and lemon. It has two bedrooms, each with queen bed and private ensuite with two-person spa, full kitchen, dining room, combustion stove and barbecue on the verandah.
The Clubhouse enjoys the best views. It pays tribute to Australia's fine tennis history with a trophy cabinet, jackets, caps, photographs and old wooden racquets. It has two queen bedrooms with ensuite and a tiny third bedroom with bunk bed. There is a full kitchen, dining room and large deck with barbecue.
Casuarina Cottage captures the essence of country. The original cottage has three queen rooms, three bathrooms and a spacious loft reached by a spiral staircase. There is a vast open fireplace, kitchen and dining area.
The award-winning Casuarina Restaurant was established more than 20 years ago and is well known for its consistently high quality and friendly service. Cuisine is Asian and European inspired and could be described as 'Mediterrasian'. Flambe cooking is a specialty. Décor and ambience are elegant but relaxed. The main dining room has a dark timber vaulted ceiling, Victorian wall lights and Edwardian/Victorian sideboards. There is a cocktail bar and two private dining areas. They open every night and have a wine list of more than 180 local vintages.
