Coonabarabran is gateway to the majestic Warrumbungle Ranges and the Pilliga Forest. Siding Spring, just out of town, is the astronomy capital of Australia, home to the four-metre long Anglo-Australian telescope, the biggest in the country and fourth most productive in the world. It is able to take 400 images at a time.
