Star-gazing in Australia's astronomy capital

17:30 AEST Sat Nov 3 2012
Coonabarabran is gateway to the majestic Warrumbungle Ranges and the Pilliga Forest. Siding Spring, just out of town, is the astronomy capital of Australia, home to the four-metre long Anglo-Australian telescope, the biggest in the country and fourth most productive in the world. It is able to take 400 images at a time.

Jules visited the observatory which is owned by the Australian National University. There are 13 dome buildings on-site and 12 working telescopes, with more on the way.
