Winnebago drive

Thursday, September 2, 2004
Catriona & David are together in our Winnebago about to drive from the NSW border to the Victorian border clocking up 10 million kilometres on 13 years of Getaway.

The cities of Albury and Wodonga straddle the Murray River, which forms the border between New South Wales and Victoria. This is one of the largest inland population centres in Australia, strategically located between Sydney and Melbourne.

Getaway chose this area to test drive the Winnebago Explorer, which a lucky winner will own, thanks to our biggest-ever competition!

This vehicle truly is a home away from home, allowing you to enjoy breaks away, short or long, without even thinking about roughing it.

The luxurious Winnebago Explorer has a choice of three timber finishes, four elegant decors, 12 floor plans and optional features. Large driving seats are extremely comfortable and at the end of your driving day, they swivel and recline so you can completely relax.

Its kitchen appliances make meal preparation a joy. There's an LPG stove, grill, oven and microwave, refrigerator/freezer and dishwasher.

Catriona and David based themselves at Boathaven Holiday Park, 15 minutes from Albury on Lake Hume. There are plenty of lake and poolside cabins at the four-hectare park, but if you have a Winnebago, you just need a camping site!

The freshwater pool is complete with water cascades and lined with palm trees and there is a private spa. There is a full-size tennis court, volleyball and badminton court and basketball ring. The games room and in-ground trampolines will keep children happy for hours. You can hire canoes and bicycles. Boathaven has plenty of barbecue areas and you can join other holiday makers around a campfire.

The area is home to some of Australia's best fly-fishing rivers and streams — Kiewa, Mitta Mitta and Buckland Rivers and Cudgewa and Nariel Creeks.

Scott McPherson, apart from being the owner of Indulgence Flyfishing, is a gourmet chef — a great combination! His outings end with a riverside picnic. Scott offers something for everyone, from novice to experienced fishers, fine dining to light snacks and half-day to one-week packages.
