Wisemans Ferry Inn

Thursday, November 6, 2003
Matty cruises his way through Wisemans Ferry in a Harley to discover the views, good food and a beer!

By 1794 settlers had moved to the Wisemans Ferry area and were growing grain and other crops, supplying Sydney Town with half its food. The settlement became an important port as produce was shipped down the river, into the Pacific Ocean and onto Sydney Harbour. The riverboat industry continued throughout the 19th century.

The settlement was named after Solomon Wiseman who was a convict who arrived in 1806. He was granted 200 acres on the banks of the river and by 1821 had established an inn called Sign of the Packet. In 1826 he built a handsome two-storey residence, Cobham Hall, and that was later used as a hostelry called The Branch Inn. Today the building is known as Wisemans Ferry Inn.

It has been altered over time but much of the original style and features remain. It has much old world charm and some say it is haunted by friendly ghosts.

Good meals are served daily and there are 11 pub-style and motel-style rooms, including some that can accommodate a family. There is a gaming room, pool room and bars.

Blue Thunder Bike Tours is the longest running licensed Harley Davidson Tour Company in NSW and has joined with Hot Heritage Harley Tours in the Blue Mountains.

Blue Thunder began operating in 1992 at Bondi Beach with just three bikes. They now have 25 bikes and run from Manly, Sydney and the Blue Mountains. A tour around Wisemans Ferry includes pick-up and drop-off from your local hotel and a scenic ride that includes the river punt to Spencer and a number of lookouts.

If you have a current bike licence you can rent a Harley yourself from Aussie Motorcycle Tours & Rentals.
