Windsor, a pretty and historic town on the edge of Sydney, has Australia's first purpose-built hydrotherapy health and beauty spa. Villa Thalgo has opened at the Sebel Resort & Spa, creating excellent accommodation blended with state-of-the-art European health and beauty treatments.
Accommodation is made up of 24 barracks rooms, 37 courtyard rooms, 21 deluxe spa rooms and eight suites with spas. All are stylishly appointed, have windows that open and some have an open fire.
In-house dining can be enjoyed at Harvest restaurant, which specialises in modern Australian cuisine with Asian and European accents. It has two private rooms with fireplaces. Courtyard Gazebo offers informal dining, snacks and buffet breakfast. Surrounded by leafy gardens, it offers al fresco dining during summer and fireside dining in winter.
The heated indoor pool is the centrepiece of Villa Thalgo. It has a cathedral vaulted ceiling, classical columns and décor and rows of French doors opening onto courtyards.
Hydrotherapy Analytic Pool has six exercise stations with pressurised underwater jets massaging you from all sides in a supervised 20-30 minute routine. This aids relaxation and assists lymphatic draining and toning and invigoration of tired, aching muscles.
Hydrotherapy Spa has 72 underwater jets and the therapy can be individually programmed. It increases circulation, strengthens muscle tone and helps eliminate toxins and relieve fluid retention.
Blitz Shower is an invigorating, high-pressure jet hose massage performed in a long, narrow room. Designed for personal physical conditions, it also stimulates lymphatic and circulatory systems and revitalises fatigued muscles.
Affusion Shower Massage is a personalised treatment of eight pressure jets three on each side of the body and two overhead for neck and shoulders.
Body Wrap is an exfoliation program for removing dead skin cells, softening skin and allowing enhanced absorption for a post-treatment mask. Wraps can be full or partial.
The Steam Room offers all the benefits of a sauna without the discomfort. It helps with respiratory problems and hydrates the skin. Oils can be incorporated into the steam room for added benefit.
Face and body treatments include re-balancing for oily and congested skin, a cold marine for sensitive skin and technically advanced marine concentrates for prematurely aging skin. All facials include a scalp, hand or foot massage and most are suitable for men also. Waxing, eyelash and eyebrow tinting and make-up for every occasion is also available.
Massage by trained masseuses is offered in three rooms and you choose which is best for you: Swedish, lymphatic, aromatherapy, remedial, hot stone or Indian head massage.
Vichy Shower consists of a shower arm with seven heads swung over a wet table for a refreshing half-hour treatment. Jets are adjustable and can be used alone or as a massage treatment. You can also treat yourself to a manicure or pedicure.
The Sebel can arrange a meal to remember with the Three in Hand Horse Drawn Restaurant. You enjoy five-star cuisine on board a fully-enclosed restaurant drawn by Clydesdale horses. As you eat you make your way through the streets and parks of Windsor, taking in the tranquil atmosphere and surroundings.
There are short stops at St Matthew's Church, where Lachlan Macquarie is buried, and historic sites such as the Macquarie Arms, said to be the pub in the oldest building in New South Wales, built in 1815.
