Big boys' toys

Thursday, September 9, 2004
Are you ready for an earth moving experience? This is Tonka on steroids where you get behind the controls of some big boys toys!

Extreme Driving has three locations. They cater for people who just love machinery — fast or big … or both.

They offer rally car driving, V8 supercars, Formula Fords, four-wheel drives, quad bikes, an armoured vehicle and bobcat, backhoe and excavator operation.

The day starts off with a safety briefing and the issuing of safety vest and helmet.

Basic hand signals are taught to enable communication and, of course, the fundamental workings of each machine are also taught.

The machinery you use is authentic. The bobcat, backhoe and excavator allow you to dig a small trench, stockpile some dirt, flatten out and grade an area … all skills that one day could be very handy.

Bobcat Experience: learn how to move and pick up and drop off loads. Also learn the famous bobcat dance! Backhoe Experience: dig trenches and holes. Excavator Experience: the top dog of machinery!

The Saracen armoured car was originally in service in the British Army and is still used by some armies. It was issued to the Gurkas in Hong Kong prior to the handover. The car was later acquired by Extreme Driving just to carry tourists.
