Hawkesbury waterski and wakeboard

Thursday, February 26, 2004
Looking for a weekend with a difference? Try wakeboarding, waterskiing or kneeboarding on the Hawesbury!

Peter Landers, chief instructor of Sydney Waterski & Wakeboard, has owned and operated the business for four years. He has been a teacher for 20 years and has all commercial boating licenses and insurance necessary for complete protection. His instructors are all accredited coaches who get a great amount of satisfaction from teaching people new skills on the water.

They operate from Cliftonville on the Hawkesbury River. The privately-owned park was chosen for its perfect skiing conditions, idyllic scenery and comfortable, budget accommodation.

The Hawkesbury/Nepean River is 530km long, fed by more than 22,000km of tributaries. Sydney Waterski & Wakeboard offers every imaginable way of being pulled through its waters by boat.

For beginners, a solid steel boom bar protrudes from the side of the boat. Skiers hold on to that and it eliminates the major cause of difficulties, slack rope. It allows the instructor to give on-the-spot instruction and the skier gradually progresses to the rope.

Courses vary from just one to six people. All equipment is provided, including wetsuits and lifejackets. All you need to take is swimsuit and towel and sleeping bag for overnight stays.

Half-day and day trips run from Friday to Monday and single runs are available on Saturdays and Sundays. On and off-water tuition is always available.

A particularly good option is that you can tell them what you would like to do. On offer is waterskiing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, tube riding, barefooting, trick skiing and surfing behind the boat.

They operate year round, thanks to Sydney's beautiful climate and the addition of a heater to their boat!
