Sydney Helicopters has some interesting tours north to the Hunter Valley, south to Kangaroo Valley and west to the Blue Mountains.
The seven-hour Blue Mountains tour starts from Rosehill Heliport. You take off in their seven-seater LongRanger or five-seater JetRanger after being offered a glass of champagne.
You will fly over the Grose Valley and the old goldfields to Tarana, near Bathurst. Tarana Hotel was built in the 1880s when towns on the rail line thrived. When cars took over, Tarana was almost forgotten, but the locals like the old-world charm and atmosphere.
Next is a 30-minute flight to Hartley Vale for a delicious three-course lunch served at the Comet Inn. It was built in 1879 and has been converted into a licensed guesthouse and public restaurant. If the weather is chilly enough, you can warm up and enjoy lunch in front of an open fire.
They serve modern Australian meals and you can choose from such delicacies as crocodile fillets with mango, lamb shanks braised in garlic, delicate rainbow trout or a good old-fashioned Aussie-style barbecued T-bone.
It's a good idea to save some room for the tempting desserts, fresh fruit sorbets and cheeses.
After this wonderful lunch it's on to the beautiful Hydro Majestic Hotel in Medlow Bath. This landmark first opened as a health retreat in 1904 and has very recently been taken back to its original glory of Edwardian, art deco and art nouveau architecture.
Enjoy cocktails in front of the fire and soak in the views of the magnificent Megalong Valley.
At the end of an exciting day of flying, eating, drinking and taking in some of Australia's prettiest sights, there is a sunset flight home.
