Woolshed Cabins in the Blue Mountains

Thursday, November 6, 2008
Blackheath is a historic village in the upper Blue Mountains. It is noted for seasonal garden displays and is a delightful place for brisk walks, great food and cosy accommodation.

Govett's Leap, Evans Lookout, Grose Valley and Hargreaves Lookout have high-elevation viewing platforms so you can admire the rolling expanse of World Heritage wilderness. Cliff face colours constantly change and are at their most vibrant when they are purple and orange.

Woolshed Cabins are on a 100-hectare property in the Kanimbla Valley. They have spectacular views of the majestic Blue Mountains escarpment and paddocks from every window and door.

The two self-contained eco-tourist cabins are spacious — one has two bedrooms, the other has three. Both have open-plan living areas, gas stove and barbecue, refrigerator, microwave, CD player, games, books and puzzles. All linen is provided and there are electric blankets and gas log fires. Fresh spring water from rocks above the property is quite possibly the cleanest water you've ever enjoyed.

The position of the cabins was carefully chosen. Not only are the views simply stunning, but they are close to the heritage shearing shed. Their aspect enabled passive solar design principles to be utilised, timber used is radially cut Australian hardwoods and citrus-based paints have been used. Children are very welcome and breakfast baskets are available.

The surrounding natural environment is home to native birds and wildlife who are your companions in the tranquil setting. Right next door to Woolshed Cabins is Centennial Glen Stables. They have horse riding, sulky driving, pony rides, mountain trail riding and learn-to-ride lessons. Sulkies take two adults or one adult and two children and there's plenty of room for a picnic basket.
