Pub Hill Farm b&b
This four-star beef-cattle farm overlooks the NSW south coast (including Mt Dromadery). Pets are allowed to curl up inside each evening with their owners. Accommodation includes one garden room with fireplace (big enough for a family of four), two queen-sized rooms with a veranda and private courtyard and one small, twin-share log cabin with a covered deck. Cape Otway Cottages
Dogs love the open road too. After coasting along Victoria's Great Ocean Road, head to Cape Otway Cottages. In this national park setting, you and your canine will be greeted by two contented Labradors. Five-paw treatment includes a soft bed (provided) in front of a wood fire and treats on the pillow. Human guests enjoy the four-star stone cottage with wood fireplace or 3½-star studio cottages with sunken spa and fireplace. Two-bedroom cottage from $140 a couple, per night ($30 extra person) and $165 a couple for a studio spa cottage. Four-night mid-week package from $465 per couple.

Kurrimine Beach Holiday Park
If you envy your pet's fur coat when winter rolls around, head for the sun. But don't forget to take your best friend with you. Tropical north Queensland's favourite home-away-from-home for pets offers long, deserted beaches to ramble along (rare these days) and large, shady areas to nap in after a day of fetching and swimming along one of Australia's most photogenic coastlines. The park is located between Cairns and Townsville. Its facilities include a barbecue area, campers' kitchen and swimming pool. Deluxe log cabins start at $40 a night, twin-share.

Alice's Cottages and Spa Hideaway
Seven of the 11 cottages spread out over a large area on the leafy outskirts of the CBD are individually themed spa hideaways. Choose from a French boudoir; Mediterranean-style villa, inspired by Aphrodite — goddess of love; or Guinevere's Camelot (but with the modern comforts). The others are workers' cottages decked out in English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh furnishings and colours. The area is not fenced, so dogs need to be leashed. Workers' cottages from $157 per couple, per night (including continental breakfast); spa hideaway from $192.
